A couple weeks ago I shared the first part of our kitchen makeover. We got our countertops reglazed since the previous owners had sponge painted the counters and the paint was peeling and scratching everywhere. Then we painted the nasty yellow cabinets a bright white to open up the small kitchen and I have to say, I LOVE the difference. I know some readers are going to prefer the warmth of the kitchen colors before, and I don’t have a problem with warm colors, but in our kitchen, I have always wanted white. {Sorry about the difference in color between the pictures, but we don’t have a lot of natural sunlight in the kitchen since we just have this one tiny window.}

Here we go! Some before and afters…
In my dreams, I would love to have a new black and/or stainless steel oven, but that’s not in our budget and this one works just fine. The next owners will have to spring for the new oven.
We also added some corner shelves because I thought it looked unfinished at the end. We could have done a better job of lining up the things underneath, but hey, who’s gunna notice a few imperfections? And I would just love another pitcher, maybe green or orange, and I have my eye on the red carafe for Christmas. But for now, I will decorate the shelves with what I have. {The shot glasses won’t stay on these shelves, they will be displayed in our old coke crate I showed you guys here.}
I am still trying to decide what to do with this guy. I considered painting the bottom either black or white and leaving the top with the butcher block look. I’m sure my lazy side will take over and tell me not to paint it since I still have the rest of the trim and doors in the house to paint.
I think the new hardware makes a world of difference too. The old handles were waaaay to vintage for my taste, not to mention they were 4 1/4 in, so it would have been slightly impossible to replace them. {NEVER, EVER install handles that are such an awkward size. Please please please always use a standard size so people who come in after you can easily replace them.} Instead we opted for knobs and I love the outcome!
And here are a few of my attempted “photographic” shots. I think they look decent!
This isn’t the final product yet. I have some touching up to do on the tan paint from where I painted the trim. There are a few other things I would also like to do in here if we ever get around to them. But for now, I love it and it works! Not to mention, we got to cross something off our Project List! Yay
What do you think of the change?

I know I’m supposed to be focusing on the cabinets, but I LOVE your yellow canisters! They’re the perfect color for your bright white kitchen. Oh, and the knobs are great, too! A vast improvement.
Oh thank you! We registered for them for our wedding and I love them! They are Fiesta and you can find them at Macy’s. Thanks for stopping by! I am headed to check out your blog right now…
It really looks beautiful – you have done such a good job! (-: I just re-did my kitchen and I know what a big job it is.

I really love what you’ve done with your kitchen. I am bookmarking your site so I can refer to it later. I’m still mulling over the details, but I want to redo my kitchen too (paint cabinets, walls, etc). You did a great job!
noticed you said that you had your counters “reglazed”. I went back to that post and read it too. Are you countertops laminate or something else? I have horribly ugly laminate countertops that I was actually considering sponge painting!
But thinking maybe reglazing would be better.
I’m one of those that love warm, but I love this too! Fresh, clean and absolutely perfect for a crisp and cheery kitchen. Great job!
Christina- The countertops were actually sponge painted. They looked great, but don’t do it! It scratches and heat will make the paint bubble and it just won’t be worth your time. Reglazing was relatively cheap (we did both bathrooms, the kitchen and had our sink installed for $450 even) it just smells awful for about a week. I would Google “reglazing countertops” plus your city and see what comes up! It was definitely worth it for us!
Rebecca- I loved the warm colors also, but only after I saw what the difference looked like. The white just really opens up our small kitchen. We had to repaint the cabinets anyways, so we just went ahead and did a remodel. I plan to add a few decoration to warm the room up a little.
Thanks for stopping by girls. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Really like the transformation of your kitchen. I do have a question, though. I like the choice of replacing the previous hardware with the simple knob. What steps did you take to hide the extra hole that was made by the previous handle?
I’m about to paint my kitchen cabinets white as well. I have white appliances and want them to go good with them. What color white did you choose for you cabinets? I think it goes good with you white stove!
Ohh so pretty! I just posted today on how we painted our cabinets from a dingy off-white to a beautiful bright white, just like yours! Doesn’t it make a world of difference? Your kitchen looks great!
I love the changes you made. It is amazing what a difference it made to paint the soffit (space over your cabinets. Nice job! And I do love your new knobs.

very nice! Can you come re-do my kitchen!? So bright and clean – I love the yellow accents, too.
I love the transformation! I think the fresh white looks so much better, and man what a difference the hardware made. Tell me about the countertops. I love the look and just can’t see tearing my laminate that is perfectly fine. I’m not a huge fan of granite. Great job!!!

Amazing job, looks beautiful! I think you should totally paint the little kitchen cart white and leave the top butcher block.
Good call with the countertops and the knobs for the cabinets. Looks so much better!!!
