Bedroom Update: Completed Bedding

Sometimes, when I’m in a cranky mood, I read a blog post, and I’m like “Really, did they just write about that?” Then I realize that blog is the bloggers own little slice of the webdom, and they can write about whatever they want.

And today, that’s exactly what I’m gunna do. Some of you might be thinking “Really, she is writing about that?” But these days, with our budget cuts and attempts to only spend money on the things we need, it’s the little updates that make me happy. And this update makes me extremely happy.

Here is what our bed looked like back in March when we finally upgraded from just a mattress frame to an actual bed, with a headboard and footboard and all. It was like upgrading from regular diapers to pull-ups. That’s how excited I was!

Then I finally got around to finishing our bedside tables and we felt like we had upgraded to big-kid panties.

Then I was stuck. Our box spring was still showing, and our pillows were frumpy and boring. So with the rest of my Pottery Barn gift card, I bought a bed skirt and tried it out.

I wasn’t a fan. It looked like grandma’s bed to me. I just wasn’t feeling it. So I returned it and got my gift card back.

Some of you suggested way back when, that I find a box spring cover. But those run like $50 bucks, and well, that just isn’t really in the budget. So off to Walmart I went to find the cheapest white fitted sheet I could. $14.06 later… I had this.

I liked the fitted sheet better than the bed skirt, so we kept it. But that still left me with my Pottery Barn gift card, which I had had since last August. In attempts to clean out our house and get rid of “junk” and “stuff” we don’t need, I didn’t want to buy accessories from PB. Then again, I knew that $70 wasn’t really going to get me too much, so I focused on our pillow situation.

We only had one sham that matched our bedding, so I wanted to get another one. Luckily, for my gift card, there was free shipping on bedding when I went to order. Which meant more pillow covers! So I called up PB customer service, and Porsha helped me finish my order. I wanted some white pillow cases and maybe a white sham, and after seeing these on sale, I wanted to know what color would go best with my bedding. Porsha was more than helpful and went and got my duvet cover and the white sheets with the color embroidery I was looking at, and she said it was a great match. Trusting her, I placed my order.

And this is what we have today.

Again, here we are before.

And here is our bed today. You’ll also notice I covered up the paint samples and finally centered our artwork. Remember, we decided to leave the bedroom the color it is since we don’t know how much longer we will be in the house.

I love having all these pillows on the bed. So adult-like! ;)

And the dogs even approve of the newly completed bedding situation.

So just for the full effect.

Before….

… and after.

So that’s it for the most pointless blog post ever. I’m just sure your drooling over our new improvements, aren’t you?

Anyways, more inspiration and house pictures from the Parade of Homes tomorrow. Did you miss the first posts? Check them out here and here.

actually, I love it. we had a big fancy bedding gifted to us when we got married (and we had a queen bed) we upgraded to a King and where left without it, now I’m trying to make it look nice without breaking the budget (I have been upgraded to a domestic engineer) I love the idea of a fitted sheet to cover the box, I’m so copying you on that.

I like your updates, and I don’t even think you should hesitate to post them if they make you happy :) . I would’ve never dreamed of using a fitted sheet on my box spring, but it’s brilliant!

It’s the simple things that make us the happiest. I think I might steal that sheet on the box spring idea…

Wow. Your bed looks great! You’re right, it is the little things that can make us so happy and saving mula is one of them (especially when you find a great buy).
