{Living Your Best Life :: Guest Post :: Jet Setting With Brooklyn Limestone}

I know it’s been a while, but we have a new guest post for our {Living Your Best Life} series! Obviously, this series will not be a weekly series, more of a when-I-can and whenever-we-have-guest-bloggers type series, but I am still just as pumped about it. I have a new list of bloggers that I plan on enticing to join our series, so hopefully we will see these posts more often.

Today, I am happy to be here with Stefanie from Brooklyn Limestone. Now we all know I have the travel bug, as I have been sharing with you parts of my summer in Spain. And Stefanie also caught the bug, but she has been to far more places than I have! I just love looking at her pictures when she gets back from a new place. For this post, we are going to do a mini-interview about how she lives her best life through travel and of course, we’ll be including some photographs that are sure to give you the bug as well. Without further ado, welcome Stefanie!

How does traveling help you “live your best life?”

For me, traveling is an important way to feel my place in the world. Its easy to get lost in the idea that my own little life is the center of the universe but traveling reminds me that the world is vast and there is so much to experience beyond my own life. Its daunting but also powerful.

The Great Wall- Beijing

What made you want to travel so much? Was there a certain trip/experience that gave you the “travel bug?”

As a child, I never traveled nor did I really know anyone who had. You’ll laugh but the thing I owe my love of travel to is likely 1980s very special sitcom specials where the characters go on vacation. Family Ties went to London, Facts of Life went to Australia, Head of the Class went to Russia, etc. It made me curious about places I’d never been. See, I always said TV can be good for you. ;)

Moscow

What do you enjoy most about visiting a new place?

Every place has something different to offer but probably the most consistent thing I enjoy in each location are the local markets. Im not much of a souvenir buyer so I don’t usually bring home much but the sites, sounds and smells of a real market are always fascinating and give a taste of what life is like for locals.

Kenya

Has traveling taught you you things you wouldn’t have learned without exploring new places?

I’m sure its taught me many things that I haven’t given credit for but I’m most amused by the little things. For example, raisins are called Sultanas in Australia; photographing the lady who sells dressed up squirrels in Bangkok will get you the world’s evilest eye; the man selling cherries from a bicycle in Xian will refuse to sell you some.

Paris

What are the top three locations you want to go that you haven’t been to already?

I can only pick three? Not fair – my list is really long. Ok, so if I have to pick three off the top of my head I’d go with: India, Istanbul and Antartica.

Shanghai

What travel tips do you have for those that would love to travel?

Just go! Lots of people feel like you have to spend a certain amount of days somewhere to make a trip worthwhile and while that can sometimes be true – its rarely a reason to stay home. If you can only spare the time and money to go to Japan for 4 days – go! Sure, you’ll be jetlagged the whole time but so what? Going for a few days is always better than staying home.

Terrific post! I love Brooklyn Limestone. Her tips are fantastic, I especially love “just go” that is my problem when I go I want to go for an extended period of time. Because of that we never go. Thanks for sharing Samantha and Stefanie.
