So I have been thinking about our master bedroom A LOT lately because I’m so ready to get moving on making it our own little haven. I plan to pick out a paint color before the end of the this month and hope to have the room and trim painted by the end of March. I know that sounds like forever away, but to be honest, I keep putting myself on short deadlines, such as finishing the bathroom in a week, and it just doesn’t happen. Remember, I work full-time and with my goal of getting in shape, spending as much quality time with my hubby between his student teaching and part-time job as I can, and my newest endeavor (to be discussed next week), my short timelines are just not working out. I hate to make deadlines that I just won’t meet because then I feel like I failed. So instead, I’m going to give myself the necessary amount of time so I don’t feel rushed, and then things will hopefully go smoother and I can still enjoy doing other things as well.
So here is the basic layout of our bedroom. The number one thing I hate about this room is that the window is not centered on the wall. It makes it very very difficult to come up with a layout that works well and it’s been quite frustrating while drawing up floor plan options.
But I have come up with four different options that I’m hoping may work. And PLEASE let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions!
The first option gives me the ability to add a chair in the future. The bed is centered under the window, and only one side of the bed will get a side table. It also means that the hubby will be sleeping about three feet away from the bathroom door, which with this option, will always remained closed.
The second option also places the bed close to the bathroom and only allows for one side table. As with the first option, I can add a chair in the future by sliding the dresser down a bit. My concern with this choice is that the side table is close to the entrance and it may be awkward with it there. Also, the door to the bathroom is only 35″ wide, meaning that the space between the bed and the wall with the window is only 35″ wide.
The third option would be my favorite in a heartbeat besides the window being off-centered. I love that both sides of the bed have a side table and that the closet and bathroom are straight shots from the entrance (no walking around furniture to get to either door). Is it weird to have a bed under the window but not centered? And what would I do about curtains?
And option four will make me look crazy. I get both side tables and straight shots to the closet and bathroom, so you would think this is the perfect option. But this is how our bedroom is currently arranged, minus the side table by the closet. And I easily get bored with room layouts. Needless to say, right now, I’m incredibly bored with this layout and it doesn’t allow me to add a chair later if I decide to. I don’t mind the tight squeeze between the wall and bed, but this is just really boring to me.
So what do you think? Any suggestions or ideas for me? I’m so torn as to what to do with this room!
I used floorplanner.com to create these floor plans.

Hm I’m a big believer in 2 nightstands. Mike and I would die without somewhere to charge each of our iPhones at night!
Could you possibly ‘fake’ the uncentered window size with some panels? There’s gotta be a way to make the window look centered!
Ok, what kind of panel are we talking about?
I would love to somehow figure out how to fake it!
If you could take Rebecca’s suggestion and hang panels to fake the window being centered that would be my favorite.
If it were my room and I couldn’t make the window look centered I’d have to keep it as is. We both like having our own side tables and there’s no way I could look at an un-centered anything lol. I’m sure you could come up with something for the window though! That would be a good layout.
I like option 3 the best. any of the layouts could definitely work though!
I love number 3! Have you seen how Young House Loves *cheats* their windows to look centered? Might be worth a try here: http://www.younghouselove.com/2010/02/nursery-progress-getting-the-hang-of-it/
I think I’m fond of option #1….tough choice though! Can’t wait to see what you end up with!
I am with you, #3 all the way! I would do what Lil House suggested and fake it with big fat panels. You’d have to move your bed and nightstands just *slightly* away from the wall to make them hang right, but it’d be totally worth it. Go for it!
